intro
1. My name is Wan NurFarah Husna Bt Wan Yahya. I'm 23 years old, and I'm currently finishing my final semester as a TESLian student in UiTM Puncak Alam. I'm a Kelantanese.
2. In terms of my computer skills, I can be considered at least tech-savvy when it comes to knowing functions and reasons of tech but often in case where it only becomes a necessity, so that makes me a novice in types of tech.
3. What computer software and hardware knowledge do I have? None.
4. I think technology can assist learners learn a 2nd or a foreign language using apps like Duolingo where students can learn second/foreign language on their own while increasing self-discipline because the app is highly persistent on completing task schedule.
5. I have experienced learning via the computer during the one semester in foundation where we had to create a learning programme (basically the same as described in assignment 3) using powerpoint, and we've created several others online and offline learning tool in foreign language class back in semester 3 and 4.
6. I did try to incorporate technology in some of my lessons during my practicum, and it was equally a success and a failure. The success came from the fact that students who learn visually are more active in class and it heightens the other's engagement in the lesson if perfectly executed. The failure came from the fact that sometimes technology does not always work because of the difficulties in connection and equipment access.
7. My opinion/prediction/perception on the use of technology in language teaching and learning is despite how it is highly effective and convenient in current techniques to teach and engaging students' attention, I believe it is highly selective in its course. The fact is, not all schools have the budget nor faculty to facilitate this luxury and education is arguably not among the top list in the government's priority. Therefore, teachers often have to work with what we have, and even then we have to strictly and systematically be frugal with them considering the lack of choices we have in the budget department.
8. I hope to learn/gain how to incorporate pedagogy and content effectively using technology from this course.
9. My topic chosen for your Academic Exercise is Level of First Language Interference in Second Language Classroom. I have chosen the topic because Native-language orthographic information presented during learning interfered with encoding of novel words in monolinguals but not in bilinguals. In general, bilinguals outperformed monolinguals on the word learning task. My supervisor Dr. Hamidah Mohd Ismail. I plan to complete my AE so that it follows the designated processes (chapter by chapter) and can be submitted on time diligently and efficiently.
